The Sankofa bird is a sacred Adinkra symbol of the Akan people of Ghana. It shows the Sankofa bird looking behind as she places an egg on her back. The meaning of the symbol is “To look back and remember”. For if you don’t know where you’ve come from, you won’t know where you are going. We must all look back and remember where we came from and pass on the knowledge we have acquired to the next generation.
